Hypnosis and How Is It Any Different?

Often people ask me why hypnosis changes anything. It’s a fair question. Why does hypnosis provide better results than therapy alone? Check out this short audio where I explain it a little more in depth.

I also have another post that gives an example of how hypnosis is used to get results more quickly.

If you don’t have a place to listen to the audio, I’ve included the content in text form below.

I want to share a story about some research they did. They tested peoples focus by showing them a word that might be the word “RED” but it will be written in green letters. And they ask you to quickly tell them what color are the letters. So it requires a lot of focus because you see the word red and you want to say red, but the letters are actually green, and you are supposed to focus on the color of the letters. And the letters come out faster and faster, and when you get them wrong then that is the limit of your ability to focus. It’s an old test that they have been doing for years in psychology.

But what this study did is they gave people this test, and measured them. Then they hypnotized them with a simple set of suggestions focused on “when you see the words you will only see wavy lines of a certain color, you won’t be able to make out the letters clearly, you will only see colors.” And a few suggestions like that, and then they gave the test again. And the subjects almost all improved their scores by a significant amount!

Thats interesting research, but more importantly it’s one example of how hypnosis can be used to help in therapy. I might make a similar suggestion to think of the present more often, and don’t think about the past so much. You know this but you just can’t do it as well as you would like or as often. But if we spend some time in hypnosis making suggestions that you will focus on the present and the past will not be so important to you, then you will probably find that your brain takes that suggestion and is able to use it to focus on the present more.

It’s a very powerful tool.

I’m not saying focus on the present is everyone’s problem, that’s an example. But it’s an example of how hypnosis can be used to amplify and speed up the therapy process. And by targeting all of these areas, like focus on the present, and forgiving people, and being more positive, and motivation, you can very quickly begin to shift your perspective and life gets a lot easier very quickly.
